Outlaws

Sloughhouse, CA

The Outlaws cowboy action shooting club is SASS-affiliated and, unless otherwise specified, follows SASS rules. The matches are usually six stages and are scored by total time. Ammunition requirements may vary, but 60 rifle, 60 handgun, and 30 shotgun shells should be about right.

New shooters are welcome. You should be familiar with SASS rules, gun safety and the operation of your own firearms. First-time participants are encouraged to attend a cowboy shooter familiarization before their first match. The goal is to emphasize safety, gun handling and provide a general overview of how a cowboy match works. Please contact one of the Outlaws below for details.

In addition to the standard SASS categories, The Outlaws offer several additional categories:

Plainsman There are two plainsmen categories for the black powder shooters. Plainsmen Classic will not allow Handi Rifles, Browning 1885s or clones, or Ruger C&B revolvers. These firearms are acceptable in Plainsmen Modern. Plainsmen will usually shoot only half the number of rifle shots as other categories.

Black Powder Gunfighter We also offer a Black Powder Gunfighter category. The rules are identical to those for Frontier Cartridge, except handguns are shot according to Gunfighter rules.

Josie Wales There is a Josie Wales category in which you must use two additional revolvers instead of a rifle. You may use smokeless or black powder and shoot your revolvers in any style.

Tom Horn The Tom Horn category allows rifle-caliber lever action rifles.
